The Geriatric Emergency Medicine Association of Australasia (GEMA) is a not for profit health and medical organisation which aims to promote and educate about the specific health care needs of older adults with frailty and complex medical problems in acute and emergency care settings and improve the acute health care older people receive in Australasia.
GEMA provide education and training and support the establishment of geriatric emergency medicine programs which aim to respond more appropriately to the changing acute health and medical care needs of people as they age.
We do this by providing education, training and advice around service development and specific skill development for doctors, nurses, health service providers and emergency departments to better identify and respond to the needs of older people with complex health care needs.
GEMA provide courses to all staff who work with older patients in acute health and medical settings.
GEMA provide a range of resources and links for acute health and medical practitioners to assist in staff education and training, service development, design and delivery of care aimed at meeting the needs of older people.
